Laparoscopic Duodenal Switch
Laparoscopic duo denal switch is a complex procedure which is performed in one or two stages.
The first stage is the creation of a sleeve gastrectomy.
The second stage mostly involves the small intestine. The small intestine is divided at its distal part which is called ileum as well as the proximal duodenum.
The distal end of the ileum is connected to the gastric sleeve and the proximal end of the ileum is connected back to the ileum but at a more distal location approximately 100 cm from the end of the small intestine.
The average operative time is 5 hours, the average hospital stay is 2-3 days and return to work is anticipated in 2-3 weeks.
